This is the self portrait I've done for this project. I wanted to stand out my age and my major as well as one of the most important things i like to do, travel, in different hierarchy. All of them are inside a rectangle with the names of my family and closer friends. Something very important in my live. Without them nothing could be possible.

This is the final design cover I've done for the book "The Devil's priest" by Kate Ellis

Examples of good cover designs

These other 3 images are examples of good cover design. They work well and we can imagine what the theme is going to be about. A dark cover is necessary for crimes novels and also the appearance red color helps if the novel is about murders. These examples have a simple and clean design, characteristics that I like.

Example of excellent cover book designs

In my opinion, this 2 images are examples of excellent design and also they work perfectly as cover book designs. The images are powerful and talk by themselves.

This is the book cover I want to redesign. The author is Kate Ellis who has written two series of crime novels. The Devil´s priest is one of her books and I think that the cover of this boo doesn't work as well as other of her books. The cover of her books are simple but works well, but in this case the typography and the color don´t match to express the theme of the book.

This is the link to her web site if you want to see the book cover of her other books: http://www.kateellis.co.uk/

These are some sketches I did, but there are too similar to the real design; therefore I´m steel working in the sketches.

In this example we can see how 2 complementary colors work together in a dynamic composition.

This other example has been made with analogous colors.

These images are some examples of good advertisements.
They are very clean and clear and they get the attention of the viewers very fast using smart and fun slogans or simply fun images that are explained by themselves. These ads go directly to the main point that are to stand out their products.

This is the advertisement I want to work in. The company is Atkins Tennis Center. It is a complex located in Urbana, on the campus of University of Illinois and it provides several services to the community as well as students and staff of the University of Illinois. Moreover, it is the home of the University of Illinois tennis teams and during the year there are different important events, such as USTA Boys 18 National Team Championship or Illinois USTA/ITF Junior Tournament, so on.
There are other places where people can practice this sport; for example, Champaign Park district- Tennis Center, located in 2802 Farber Drive.

The reason I want to work in this ad is because I think the left side is very crowded, with all this amount of sentences positioned in different directions and overlapping others. All of this make that the ad becomes chaotic.
For example, after see the telephone number and behind it the phrase "Check it out", you do not know exactly what to read next. Also, the name of the company does not stand out and everything has almost the same emphasis.
It is good to see a free space in the right side, yet it should be the emphasis point of the ad or the place that makes balance; nevertheless,  the left part is where the visual weight is.

The post of this week is a color study with  prismacolor. I wanted to show the different hue gradients and a tint of every color.

In this composition we can see some of the devices to make illusion of space in a 2D design, such as exaggerated size, overlapping, or two-point perspective. Also, the image give us the sense of the composition continues out of the frame.

Here, there are some line studies that represent different feelings. I named the lines with different adjectives, such as excited, crazy, quick, nervous, angry, happy, jagged, sharp, delicate, flowing, or smooth.  All depends of your feelings. With your hand, you can transmit to a line whatever you want to express. A line can express endless qualities.

We can see how some lines flow with others. Some are subtle lines while others are more noticiable. This create a rhythm, in this case repetition of organic and delicate lines that produces calm and tranquillity among others.

I think this sketch shows the asymmetrical balance. The left part would be the heaviest if I had not added 2 parts of different sizes in the right side to equilibrate the image. Also, in the bottom of the image 3 lines go to the empty space to make more feel of balance. And another one goes on the top of the image to equilibrate that side.

In this image we can see how the product that the company wants to sell comes up into the front while everything in the background has movement. At the same time this movement goes directly to the focal point, the product. The company wanted to emphasize its product (using internet in cell phones) with this kind of contrast: objects in focus against movement in the background. With this ad, the company wants to tell us how fast will be the internet with its brand.
